As if one photo-sharing app isn't enough, Instagram launched another one today. The company has announced a new Instants app, which was intended for users to share "spontaneous, unfiltered photos– with friends". Let's take a look at what this app can do.
Features
Instants was designed for users to snap quick moments they want to share, but do not necessarily want to keep long-term. This 'disappearing' feature means you won't have a cluttered image library or feed. However, Instagram confirmed that Instants can be saved in a private archive for up to one year.

Additionally, users can compile and reshare instants from their archive and post to stories for their followers to view. It's how they can recap on their experiences and share them with followers. If you accidentally shared an instants, you could undo the share or even delete it from your archive entirely. Lastly, there's an option to 'Snooze' an instants to stop seeing it temporarily.
Why make a separate app?
So, why create a separate app for Instants instead of adding the feature to Instagram? The company explained it as an experiment to test how it can provide easier, immediate access to the camera. Users only have to log in to their Instagram account, then easily share their instants on Instagram, or from Instagram to Instants. What's useful is that the images disappear with time, so users can avoid clogging their feed.
