Instagram shutting down standalone Direct app most likely by end of May

Based on Twitter user Matt Navarra, Instagram will be shutting down their standalone Direct app most likely by the end of May 2019. But fret not, as all the conversations that took place on the standalone app will migrate over to the Instagram itself.

Instagram Direct was initially developed in 2017, to separate itself from the original Instagram app in order to directly compete with a similar app called Snapchat. However, due to positive remarks thanks to the introduction of the Instagram Story, the original app itself may have unintentionally “cannibalized” Instagram Direct.

That being said, many may not have heard of the standalone app due to it being only available in countries such as Uruguay, Chile, Turkey, Italy, Portugal, as well as Israel. The developers noted that they will continue the development of Direct and have its features incorporated into the main Instagram app. For more updates like this, stay tuned to TechNave.com.
