During the mid of March, Meta announced that it will be shifting away from NFTs on both Facebook and Instagram. At the time, we didn't know when it would be removed but we have an official date. As shared by Ahmeh Ghanem, NFTs on Instagram will be deactivated on 11 April 2023.

But what will happen to the current NFTs on Instagram? Well, the information in the image also said that "any collectables you've shared will remain on Instagram as posts". However, any blockchain info won't be displayed but information about collectables can still be downloaded until 11 April.

As a brief history, Instagram only began testing out NFT support with a small group of creators back in May 2022. It's bizarre to see how a project falls short so quickly in less than a year but to be fair, NFTs were never popular among the netizens. Even last year, there was already tension between corporate companies and blockchain technologies (such as Web3) due to distributing trust and power.

NFT support on Instagram was aimed at helping creators to do business and introduce it to the masses. But let's be honest, it still doesn't make sense to own a digital image when you can just make one, copy and save it for free. Oh well, at least they tried.
