Instagram will reduce the quality of unpopular videos on its site

Recently, a video by Adam Mosseri went viral on Threads that stated, that the quality of the video shared on Instagram depends on its level of popularity. This caused many users to feel angry. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Adam Mosseri explains that Meta favours high-quality video for more CPU-intensive encoding and more expensive storage for larger files. Therefore it makes sense to focus on content creators with the highest number of views. It is also not a fixed thing but more of a changing scale.

“We bias to higher quality (more CPU intensive encoding and more expensive storage for bigger files) for creators who drive more views,”. “It’s not a binary [threshold], but rather a sliding scale.” – Adam Mosseri

In addition, he added that the change in video quality will not affect the reach of the creator's content. It also only affects the average user watching the video, not the video creator's account. Mosseri also said that people will watch videos more because of the content than because of the resolution. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out soon.
