Intel sets to launch the probably "world's fastest desktop CPU" on 5 April 2022. The Intel Core i9-12900KS will be a better version of the company's current flagship by being capable of boosting up to higher clock speeds at 5.5GHz. Now, let's continue reading for the other information we have regarding the upcoming CPU.

Going up to 5.5Ghz is impressive. However, the source mentions that it can only be hit on a single core over a limited period of time. Meanwhile, the all-core boost will be 5.2GHz, which is still something that is good enough considering it has eight performance cores. Of course, the CPU hasn't gone through the tests for its performance in real-world apps and games, so we still have to wait around before making a quick judgement.

We all know that Intel isn't the only company making desktop CPUs. AMD claimed that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, launching on 20 April, beats out the vanilla 12900K. Therefore, it should come close to the KS version as well. AMD's offering is said to perform exceptionally for gaming, but outside of that, it won't be so competitive with the Alder Lake flagships.
