Many have dreaded it but it was an inevitable outcome. With the current coronavirus pandemic hitting the world, the writing was on the wall and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has strongly hinted that it could postpone the Olympics 2020.

According to USAToday, IOC senior member Dick Pound made this claim in a phone interview. Although both the IOC itself and Tokyo 2020 organising committee has not made an official announcement on this matter, Pound is convinced that the Olympics 2020 will be postponed. This would mean that the sporting event will no longer take place starting on 24 July 2020 as scheduled, but will likely be moved to a new date in 2021.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the chances of a postponement is indeed high. IOC president Thomas Bach first suggested the possibility of a postponement on Sunday, though he also mentioned that the IOC is considering other ways of conducting the games. Regardless, IOC will make a final decision on this within the next four weeks.

Unlike other events such as the MWC or E3, a major global sporting event like the Olympics has much more economic and cultural significance. Cancelling it is certainly out of the question, but how much of an impact would postponement bring? Let us know what you think on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
