The sport enthusiast’s faithful companion and must-have accessory brand Fitbit has come up with an exciting new concept to their line of fitness trackers, the smartwatch, namely the FitBit Ionic smartwatch.

You would think that it would run the latest AndroidOS but no, the Fitbit Ionic will run their very own IonicOS. Based on their official blog, although the Fitbit IonicOS does not have the benefits of an AndroidWear, the IonicOS does have its own advantages such as rich notifications from social media such as Facebook etc. and also is able to run fitness apps such as Strava, Pandora and Accuweather. On top of that, the Ionic will pack a whooping four day battery life on normal and 10 hour operation if you are using the GPS/GLONASS tracking. Did we mention it can also play music?

As a smartwatch, the Ionic is bound to pack tons of features such as the usual Fitbit training modes (including swimming), water resistance up to 50m and a real-time heart rate tracker. Yes, it is able to track your heart 24/7 even during resting.

The Fitbit Ionic will be released in the US starting in October around the price of $300 (RM1300) but there’s no news yet on when and whether it will come to Malaysia in the future. We’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, do stay tuned to TechNave.com for the latest gadget news.
