Today, JAECOO J5 has officially launched in Malaysia, marking the latest addition to the growing lineup from OMODA | JAECOO. Positioned as a compact premium B-segment crossover, the launch was officiated by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI), YB Tuan Sim Tze Tzin. According to Head of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia, Chris Tan, the JAECOO J5 is built for drivers seeking versatility, comfort, and sophistication for both urban lifestyles and weekend adventures.
The JAECOO J5 Specifications
Powering the JAECOO J5 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 108kW (147 PS) and 210Nm of torque, while the engine incorporates advanced technologies, including intake integrated intercooling and an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head to improve thermal efficiency and drivability. It is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that sends power to the front wheels, providing seamless acceleration and refined power delivery.
In terms of measurements, the JAECOO J5 measures 4380mm in length, 1860mm in width and 1650mm in height, with a 2620mm wheelbase. Built with high-tensile steel in key structural areas, the vehicle is engineered for improved impact absorption and structural rigidity, featuring a torsional rigidity rating of 23500Nm per degree, supporting both safety and driving stability.
For ride comfort and handling, the J5 adopts a MacPherson strut front suspension paired with a multi-link rear suspension system. The exterior is complemented by 18-inch dual-tone aluminium alloy wheels fitted with 235/55 R18 tyres, enhancing both stance and driving confidence. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.4 litres per 100km under the Malaysia Driving Cycle, earning the vehicle Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certification.
The Interior Cabin
Inside the JAECOO J5, the five-seater interior features premium leatherette upholstery with white seat piping and ventilated front seats for improved comfort in warm climates. A standout feature is a built-in in-car mixer with app control that allows the cabin to function as a private karaoke space. Double-glazed front windows further enhance cabin refinement by reducing outside noise.
Practicality is supported by a 480-litre boot that expands to 1284 litres with the 60/40 split-fold rear seats, while the interior also includes TÜV-certified pet-friendly upholstery with antibacterial and scratch-resistant properties. A large panoramic moonroof measuring 1.45 square metres enhances the cabin atmosphere by bringing in more natural light.
In addition to the cabin, a 13.2-inch 2K central infotainment display supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is complemented by an 8-inch LCD instrument cluster and an eight-speaker audio system for a more immersive in-car entertainment experience. For device charging, the vehicle includes a 50W wireless charging pad with active ventilation to keep smartphones cool during use.
Advanced Safety with Level 2+ ADAS
The JAECOO J5 is equipped with a Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite featuring 19 safety technologies designed to improve driver awareness and protection across various traffic conditions. Key features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Jam Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking. The vehicle also includes a 540-degree HD surround view camera system, providing improved visibility during parking and low-speed manoeuvres.
Pricing, Warranty and Launch Promotion
In Malaysia, the JAECOO J5 2WD is priced from RM108000 (on-the-road without insurance). To celebrate the launch, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia is offering a special launch package available from 5 to 15 March 2026. Early buyers can receive a RM3000 Duit Raya rebate, along with either complimentary first-year insurance or an additional RM3000 rebate.
Customers will also receive a J5 Car Accessories Trio Package worth RM2000, which includes a subwoofer, a wireless karaoke microphone, and a multi-functional flashlight designed for outdoor activities and emergencies. All JAECOO J5 models come with a seven-year or 150000 km vehicle warranty, whichever comes first.
First Deliveries Begin
Following the launch, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia delivered the first batch of five JAECOO J5 units to early customers.
