The Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced the temporary suspension of transfer of title (THM) transactions via online transaction channels effective May 25, 2026. That said, what should you know about it?

A measure to prevent the transfer of vehicle ownership without consent

For your information, the suspension involves public portals, kiosks and JPJ business partners, including MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd. JPJ, in a statement, said the measure was taken as an immediate control action following official complaints and social media reports regarding the transfer of vehicle ownership, which allegedly occurred without the knowledge of the registered owner.

According to JPJ, the issue is being taken seriously as it involves aspects of security and integrity of vehicle registration records in the department's system. In this regard, all ownership transfer transactions for private individuals and private companies must be carried out at the JPJ Office counter starting on that date.

For the private individual category, ownership transfer matters can still be completed on the same day at all state JPJ offices and branches. Meanwhile, for the private company category, the verification and approval process is expected to take between five and seven working days after complete documents are submitted.

Moreover, JPJ informed that through the eAuto channel, only the Temporary Transfer of Ownership System (STMS) is still operating as usual, while the eTransfer of Ownership (eSTM) system is temporarily suspended. Therefore, any used vehicle company that wants to implement sSTM must submit an application to the State JPJ Office or Branch.

Furthermore, JPJ advises the public to always check and update their vehicle information to ensure the security of their registration records is maintained.
