With the ongoing energy crisis, Malaysia’s Road Transport Department is encouraging the public to shift towards digital services as rising fuel prices continue to impact daily commuting costs. The move is positioned as both a convenience upgrade and a practical cost-saving measure for motorists nationwide.

Digital Services Positioned as a Cost-Saving Alternative

According to JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, ongoing global fuel supply pressures, partly driven by geopolitical tensions, are contributing to higher fuel prices that directly affect consumers. In response, JPJ is promoting its digital-first approach to reduce the need for physical visits to its counters.

By leveraging online platforms, users can complete transactions without travelling, helping them save on fuel expenses while also reducing time spent on the road and avoiding congestion at JPJ offices.

Over 40 JPJ Services Now Available Online

JPJ highlighted that a significant portion of its services is already accessible digitally. A total of 33 transaction types can be completed on the official online portal, while an additional 16 services are available through the MyJPJ mobile application. These include processes that do not require physical presence, making it easier for users to handle routine matters remotely without needing to queue at branches.

Supporting Malaysia’s Digital and Energy Efficiency Goals

The push towards digital adoption is also aligned with the government’s broader agenda to modernise public service delivery. JPJ says expanding digital services will improve efficiency, speed, and accessibility, while also supporting national efforts to reduce energy consumption.

Beyond convenience, the initiative reflects a wider shift towards digital governance in Malaysia. The government is also introducing a WFH policy for civil servants, and it has begun today (15 April) for the same reason. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
