Come 2020, we will be cheering once again for the world’s best athletes on the world stage that is the Olympics. Tokyo 2020 is expected to be one of the more technologically advanced Olympics, and their first step is to create the medals of the games out of discarded electronic devices.

Just as an info, the London 2012 Olympics saw about 9.6 KG of Gold, 1210 KG of Silver and 700 KG of copper turned into the medals that was presented to the winning athletes. While those numbers may be high, but in 2014 alone Japan recovered 143kg of gold, 1566kg of silver, and 1112 tons of copper from electronic waste. So Japan is already on their way to have the medals made from recycled materials.

This recycling and upcycling act that we will see from Tokyo 2020 is something applaudable and we would be rooting for everyone when 2020 comes around and Tokyo is set as the stage for the world’s athletes to go against each other to be the best of the very best.
