We have reported about this before, regarding Tim Cook's retirement as Apple CEO, but it has been confirmed. The company already put the rumours to rest, confirming a historic leadership change, with Tim Cook set to step down as CEO and transition into a new role as Executive Chairman.

John Ternus Named as Next CEO

Taking over the top role is John Ternus, currently Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. He will officially become CEO on 1 September 2026, as part of a long-planned succession strategy. Ternus will also join Apple’s board of directors on the same date, marking a significant step in the company’s leadership transition.

Meanwhile, Cook will continue to play a key role at Apple in his new position as Executive Chairman, working closely with the leadership team and contributing to the company’s long-term direction. Apple’s board praised Cook’s leadership, noting that he transformed the company through consistent product innovation and strong values-driven management.

As part of the transition, Arthur Levinson, who has served as non-executive chairman for over a decade, will become Apple’s lead independent director. This shift ensures continuity within the board while aligning with the company’s new leadership structure.

End of an Era, Start of a New Chapter

The leadership change was unanimously approved by Apple’s board, reflecting a structured and deliberate succession plan. Cook will remain CEO through the transition period, working alongside Ternus to ensure a smooth handover. Cook has led Apple since 2011, succeeding Steve Jobs, and overseeing a period of massive growth and expansion across hardware, services, and new product categories.

With Ternus stepping in, Apple is entering a new phase under a leader deeply rooted in its hardware engineering division, signalling continuity in product development while positioning the company for its next wave of innovation. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
