The Johor State Government is targeting 15,840 electric vehicle (EV) registrations by 2030, compared to the 977 units that are currently registered in the state. This is according to the Johor Green Development Committee, whose chairman Ling Tian Soon asserted that the state is also targetting 1,245 EV charging stations in the next 5 years.
Bernama quoted Ling as saying that there are currently 377 charging stations in Johor. He also touted that the increase in EV charging stations would attract more EV users from Singapore.
Under this new transportation policy, the Johor Government is making it mandatory for new commercial areas to allocate a percentage of parking spaces equipped with EV charging stations. Moreover, Ling said the committee has also agreed to encourage both domestic and foreign investments in renewable energy, in line with the goal of generating 600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy by 2030.
