K-KOMM: DNB has been allocated with the 700MHz, 3.5GHz and 28GHz 5G spectrum bands in Malaysia

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) has announced that all identified 5G spectrum have been allocated to Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) for the provision of 5G services throughout Malaysia. These include the 700MHz, 3.5GHz and 28GHz bands.

The above was revealed during a question and answer session in Parliament earlier today, K-KOMM Deputy Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin. As reported by Bernama, Zahidi said that the matter was in line with the government’s decision on the Single Wholesale Network (SWN) operated by DNB for the implementation of the national 5G network.

The Deputy Minister was replying to a question by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sibuti on whether the Federal Government would offer 5G spectrum specifically for the Sarawak government to operate 5G service in the state. Zahidi elaborated that DNB is working in tandem with the Sarawak State Government and related agencies to ensure smooth development of 5G network in the state.

He further stressed that the implementation of 5G network development in Sarawak has started in the second quarter of 2022. Moreover, for this year, a total of 339 5G sites are planned to be developed in the state, including 227 sites in Kuching and 112 sites in Miri, with 17 sites having been completed in Kuching since 11 July 2022.
