The Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has lauded the MEASAT-3d satellite’s capabilities to close the digital gap in our country. Moreover, the satellite’s ability to widen high-speed internet coverage to rural areas will enable 100 percent internet connectivity in Malaysia.

Set for launch at 5.03 am Malaysian time on 23 June 2022 in French Guiana, the MEASAT-3d satellite will be the eight satellite launched to upgrade the communication services in Malaysia and our neighbouring countries. As reported byBernama, Annuar believes that the launch will strengthen Malaysia’s presence in the digital era without marginalising any population group.

The Communications and Multimedia Minister also revealed that new communications services through the satellite will be offered to Malaysians as early as August this year. This includes offering high-speed internet connectivity to the 3 to 5 percent of our country’s population that has yet to receive fibre and broadband services via MEASAT’s CONNECTme NOW.

Annuar further elaborated that MEASAT-3d is a Geostationary Equatorial Orbit (GEO) with wide coverage that’s capable of offering high-speed broadband via High Throughput Satellite (HTS). Hence, rural areas will able to enjoy better download speeds of up to 100Mbps, enabling streaming of up to 8k resolution videos.
