The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) has reassured Malaysians that the PerantiSiswa tablets will be from a well-known brand in the market and not of low quality. Furthermore, its Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa also revealed yesterday that the brand and supplier for the tablets will be announced next week.

Annuar further asserted that the tablets will be received by the first batch of students in the second week of July. However, the period will also depend on the delivery process of the selected bidders for the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme.

As reported by national news agency Bernama, K-KOMM planned for the first rollout to be 30 days from the date of application. As for the second rollout for the tablets, it will be made in August or 60 days after the application process for those who apply late and for appeal cases.

The PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme were opened last month on 15 April. It will benefit 350,000 B40 students in public and private institutions of higher learning (IPTA), polytechnics and community colleges under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

A budget of RM450 million has been allocated to the programme by the federal government, amounting to 350,000 units of tablets. The K-KOMM Minister also said that based on the advice of the committee including EPU (Economic Planning Unit) and based on a trial on a group of students, the ministry decided that it is better to provide high quality tablets rather than low-quality laptops.
