K-KOMM calls for telcos to not choose or divide coverage areas

When picking a mobile service, we sometimes choose one over another due to various factors. One is service coverage, which can differ depending on where you are. However, the government doesn't want telcos to choose or divide their coverage areas.

At an official ceremony, K-KOMM Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa reminded telcos to not 'divide' coverage areas among themselves. Instead, he wants all providers to share the responsibility of providing mobile services to all areas. This will ensure that Malaysians can enjoy equal coverage from all telcos, regardless of where they work or live.

He also said that one tower must have four telco services. "The technology now allows even up to six telco services. All areas will have coverage, especially tourist areas," he added. Besides that, he wanted telco companies to consider expanding services to remote areas so families who live far apart can stay connected with their loved ones.

If local telcos were to follow the minister's wish, we Malaysians all stand to benefit. Instead, we only need to consider factors like monthly fees, service quality, or added value when choosing a mobile service provider. Do you think it'll happen?
