KKD: 5G network coverage in Sabah nears 50%, 221 telco towers yet to be completed

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has provided an update regarding the 5G coverage in Sabah. According to its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, the network’s coverage in the East Malaysian territory’s populated areas is almost at 50 per cent as of 30 September. 

According to BERNAMA, Fahmi further revealed that 401 out of a total of 622 5G sites planned in Sabah have been completed. As for the 4G network, the KKD Minister said that coverage has reached over 90 per cent of populated areas in the state with an average mobile speed of 43.76Mbps as of 2023’s second quarter.

Fahmi elaborated that a total of 4229 out of the 4281 transmitter stations planned to be upgraded to the 4G network have been completed. As for the implementation of the National Digital Network (JENDELA) project in Sabah, he said that 186 of the 631 new communication towers planned to be erected under the project have been completed.
