The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) has advised the public to beware of suspicious calls in which irresponsible quarters are using KKD’s name to commit scams. The modus operandi of these scammers is to call unsuspecting victims and claim that their phone number is blacklisted for being involved in criminal acts.

In a statement yesterday (20 December 2022), the KKD Rapid Response Team (RR) denied the fake news which has gone viral on social media regarding this new scam tactic. KKD RR stressed that the ministry has never made any telephone calls to consumers requiring them to contact the police for alleged blacklisting of their phone numbers due to criminal activity.

The team further urged the public to always verify the authenticity of callers before giving out any personal information. Moreover, if you have received any suspicious calls or messages similar to these scammers’ modus operandi, do report the incident to the police or the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559, 03-26101599 or 997 (National Scam Response Centre – NSRC) within 24 hours.
