The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) has advised the public to be wary of a new scam that is being shared via SMS and messaging apps. The viral message alleges that RM900 will be credited to Bantuan Warganegara Malaysia (BWM) recipients via their Touch ’n Go eWallet, which is nothing but a front for a phishing website.

In a statement yesterday (18 December 2022), the KKD Rapid Response Team (RR) said that the contents of the message have been identified as being similar to other previous fake viral messages. The public is advised to not be deceived into providing personal information via the link provided.

The ministry further urged Malaysians to be cautious and not spread dubious messages and to always refer to official sources for verified information. Today, KKD reiterated the warning in a Facebook post and stressed that the government never announced any such assistance as alleged by the viral messages and urged the public to not fall for scammers’ tactics.
