The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has claimed that our country is still lacking around 12000 cyber security experts in various fields to tackle cyber attacks. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil further elaborated that this is one of the challenges faced by the government in its national digitalisation agenda.

As reported by Bernama, Fahmi said that Malaysia currently only has 15000 cyber security experts. He added that our country requires almost double that, around 27000, to tackle cyber attacks.

Hence, KKD through CyberSecurity Malaysia is planning to implement several initiatives to shore up the industry against cyber attacks. These include bringing Malaysians who are experts in the field to work in our country through TalentCorp.

Besides that, Malaysia is also planning to attract foreigners who can serve our country in the cyber security field. Fahmi noted that the matter also requires the cooperation of the public and private institutions of higher learning.

However, KKD has yet to set any target or timeframe to fulfil the need for cyber security experts. Given the fast growth of the industry, the number of experts required may also change annually.
