The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has revealed that our country is close to reaching its 5G network coverage for 2023. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil lauded the progress, saying that it was a positive development for the nation.

As reported by Bernama, Fahmi further elaborated that the progress showed that the government was on the right track in ensuring the target of 80 per cent 5G network coverage for populated areas before the year’s end can be achieved. Currently, Malaysia only needs approximately 25 per cent more to achieve the aforementioned target as the coverage is now at 55 per cent. Hence, the KKD Minister stressed that it is important that this is not interrupted.

He added that there were some recommendations on what KKD can do to expedite the process during discussions with telco companies. Fahmi also revealed that he will be holding a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this week to finalise the policy and direction of 5G implementation in Malaysia.
