The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) stressed that the usage of satellite internet services such as Starlink is not a commercial decision, but just a temporary measure for areas without good internet access. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil further revealed that long-term solutions are being implemented for the issue.

According to Bernama, Fahmi said that Starlink is suitable as a temporary solution as it’s plug-and-play and has fast internet speed at a reasonable price. Besides Starlink, the KKD Minister also said that there are 3 other satellite internet service providers and their usage is not a commercial decision.

Instead, he iterated that the benefits of this technology are suitable for the purpose of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Accordingly, the government is now also planning to expand satellite internet technology to schools and health clinics in Sabah and Sarawak.
