Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has begun testing a new system known as the Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) since September 1. So, what should you know about it?

A new measure to improve traffic flow

For your information, the main purpose is to smooth the flow of traffic in the front area of the terminal and improve user safety. Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (MAHB) announced that system testing at Terminal 1 is being conducted from 1 September to 31 November 2025.

Additionally, the testing involves two main locations, namely level 5 (departure hall) and level 3 (arrival hall). For Terminal 2, the testing will begin on 15 September and end on 30 November 2025. This new system uses automatic barriers to control vehicle entry and exit according to set time limits.

How does it works?

When vehicles enter the terminal area, the system will automatically record their arrival and exit times using cameras and sensors. During the trial period, users are given 10 minutes free to drop off or pick up passengers. If the period is exceeded, vehicle movements will be monitored, but there is no charge for the time being.

Moreover, you do not need to register, as this system works automatically without requiring any contact. Importantly, users are encouraged to plan their movements well so as not to spend too much time in the area.

While there is no charge for the time being, all recorded data will be used to analyse traffic patterns and understand driver behaviour. The aim is to assess the effectiveness of the system before it is fully implemented.
