Many people still think computer viruses are limited to Windows PCs. However, malware can not only be found in Mac computers today but also in mobile devices. In fact, Kaspersky recently shared details of a malware active since March 2024 - SparkCat.
Kaspersky first found the malware in late 2024, confirming that it infects both Android and iOS devices. Given the name "SparkCat", it was spread through the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and unofficial third-party app stores. Its core function is to steal recovery phrases for crypto wallets. Additionally, while some infected apps seem legitimate, others were apparently designed to lure in victims.

Dmitry Kalinin and Sergey Puzan, the Kaspersky experts who investigated this malware, explained how SparkCat was dangerous because there's no indication that infected apps had any malicious intention. The permissions requested by these apps are needed for the apps to function and appear harmless at first. For more technical details about the malware, check the report here.
If you're a crypto wallet user, you might want to download the Kaspersky mobile antivirus for some peace of mind. Remember to be careful of the apps you download, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
