With the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 globally, foldable smartphones are looking to becoming mainstream for the masses. That being said, LG has recently developed a new kind of foldable display material with new materials.

According to LG's newsroom, the new foldable display is called "Real Folding Window" that applied specially developed coating material. This allows the display to be not only flexible as plastic but as hard glass at the same time. On top of that, the transmittance of light was reported to be quite clear.

How this was achieved was using cover windows as the core materials. An LG Chem representative said that unlike existing polyimide films and tempered glass-type materials, this new coating technology can maximize flexibility as well as improving folding creasing issues and connecting parts of the display. It is said that the flexibility and durability are still maintained even after folding more than 200,000 times.

LG plans to mass-produce the Real Folding Window by 2022 and begin selling from 2023 onwards. Needless to say, we expect to see more of this technology on future smartphones, tablets and even laptops. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
