The Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) announced that the Langkawi National Observatory (ONL) has successfully recorded a phenomenon known as a planetary parade / planetary alignment. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, this is a phenomenon where several planets appear to form a straight line in the sky from the perspective of an observer on Earth. According to MYSA,

"The line is called the ecliptic, and it represents the plane of the solar system in which the planets orbit the Sun." NASA.
This event occurs in early January 2025 and will be visible until mid-February 2025.

The planets that can be seen with the naked eye are Venus in the western sky (brightest), Saturn (next to it), Jupiter (almost directly overhead) and Mars in the eastern sky. The best time to see it is after Maghrib or sunset until around 9:00 pm. MYSA stated that there was also the planet Uranus at that time but it could only be seen using optical aids such as telescopes.

In addition, you can use software such as Sky Map, Sky Safari, Stellarium and star map applications on smartphones to find out the positions of these planets in the night sky.
