Lazada Malaysia has now announced that they have started implementing a service tax charge of 8% effective today, 1 March 2024. That’s 2% more than the 6% previously. In case you missed it, this is part of the government's announcement during Budget 2024.
Lazada states that this service charge will be applied to transaction fees, Lazada usage commission fees, and also any fees involving promotional programs by a seller. Lazada is not the only company to announce a price hike. Previously, Shopee and TikTok Shop have also announced the same policy, which will also be enforced today.
Hopefully, these companies will introduce more great-value vouchers. After all, it can be hard to shop when everything is getting more expensive. Overall, it will be interesting to see how this policy will affect Malaysians.
