Not long ago, Xiaomi has brought its first folding smartphone to the market and the move was aligned with the rumour that surfaced last year. Besides Xiaomi, smartphone makers like OPPO and Google were also said to be joining the party by launching folding devices in 2021. Now, we might get to take a 'first look' at how Google is going to make one through this leaked patent.

According to the patent dug up by PatentlyApple, Google's folding smartphone will use a different kind of folding mechanism compared with current offerings. It is said that the company will include a hinge assembly that has a slider mechanism and a set of gears. With the help of those components, the mechanism can transfer a rotational movement of the flexible device to allow bends without any damage or breakage.

Besides that, not much is known about the foldable device that Google will present. However, since the Pixel lineup has always offered high-quality smartphone photography features, the tech giant could also show one or a few new tricks on the upcoming foldable other than a new folding structure.
