LeapFrog LeapBand introduced as fitness tracker and digital pet for kids

LeapFrog is introducing a fitness tracker for kids in the form of the LeapBand. The kiddie friendly smartwatch like design is neon green, blue, pink, orange and white with big, colourful buttons for controls. While it works like most other fitness trackers by tracking steps and the like, it is a mostly standalone device, so you don't need to pair it with a smartphone. It is also water resistant, so it should be sweat proof and spill proof. Unlike other fitness trackers, being more active and playing the fitness games loaded onto the LeapBand lets kids unlock pets and points to customize their pets.

Kids can choose from various types of pets, bathe them, dress them up and do all sorts of games with these pets. While it works by itself, the LeapBand is compatible with iOS and Android devices, along with LeapFrog Wireless tablets. Unfortunately, there are still no details on Malaysia release dates or pricing but it will be available in August 2014 for $40 (RM130). We expect it to appear in Toys'R'Us or other similar retailers after that. Check out the video below for now:
