We have passed the first quarter of the year, and there are already some signs of price hikes on certain devices. Recently, Lenovo has quietly increased the Legion Go 2 to almost USD2000, as reported by a few media news outlets. In Malaysia, the jump is significant, reaching up to RM7109 on its official website.

Prices Surge by Up to RM1700

The price increase is not minor. Depending on the configuration, Malaysian buyers are now paying up to RM1,720 more than before. For example, the 32GB + 512GB storage model now starts at RM5999, up from RM4739. Higher listings for the same variant have climbed even further, while the 1TB model now reaches RM7109 compared to its previous RM5399 price point.

Retailers overseas have also reported large price jumps within a short period, showing that this is not a local adjustment but part of a wider industry shift. As you should know by now, the main factor is a global shortage of memory components. Demand for RAM and storage has surged due to the rapid expansion of AI data centres, which are consuming large amounts of these resources.

This has pushed up component prices across the supply chain, forcing manufacturers like Lenovo to either absorb costs or pass them on to consumers. For now, it seems the latter is happening.

Other Handheld Gaming PCs Still Unaffected

Interestingly, not all handheld gaming PCs in Malaysia have seen price changes yet. Devices like the ASUS ROG Ally series, Steam Deck OLED, and MSI Claw are still being sold at their original launch prices at the time of writing. Lenovo’s own earlier models, including the original Legion Go and the more affordable Legion Go S, are also unaffected for now.

What This Means for Malaysian Gamers

For Malaysian gamers, this price hike could be a sign of things to come. If the ongoing memory shortage continues, other brands may eventually follow with similar increases, potentially pushing handheld gaming PCs further out of reach for budget-conscious buyers.
