Earlier today, the Cabinet has given the go-ahead in developing a National Digital Identity system which will go hand-in-hand with the pre-existing NRIC. As of now, the MCMC will be in charge of conducting a nine-month-long study on how feasible the proposed system will be.
To elaborate more, the proposed National Digital Identity system will function similar to that of an identification card albeit in a virtual form. It allows the average Malaysian citizen to authenticate themselves when conducting an online transaction. Not only that, but it also acts as their national profile which then can use to log in to government services.
With the aforementioned system, big-ticket transactions can be more secure and traceable which gives a peace-of-mind to the buyer and the seller.
