As many of you may have noticed, but YouTube have officially come forward to announce that their video quality setting has been lowered. We know, it's annoying to see such inferior resolution but it will only be temporarily for 30 days. Also, this is so that the servers can keep up with everyone staying at home binge-watching YouTube videos.

That said, sources say that users can still adjust the setting to HD instead of SD, but YouTube recommends that it's best to not to "stress on the system during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic" (fair enough). Anyway, below is the official statement from a spokesperson for Google (yes, they own YouTube in case you forgot).

“We continue to work closely with governments and network operators around the globe to do our part to minimize stress on the system during this unprecedented situation,” said the Google spokesperson “Last week, we announced that we were temporarily defaulting all videos on YouTube to standard definition in the EU. Given the global nature of this crisis, we will expand that change globally starting today.”

So far, Netflix has also reduced the video quality in Europe (for 30 days) and trying to do the same for Australia, India and some countries in Latin America. Disney+, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video have yet to take action on this.

Remember, this video quality reduction is just temporary. As usual, keep your hygiene clean and stay at home. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
