The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has introduced a rather eye-catching way to ensure Covid-19 SOPs compliance at Ramadhan bazaars this year. Get this, the city council is using an infrared headcount system to control the number of people coming into the bazaars!
Currently being utilised at the bazaars in SS 6/1, Kelana Jaya and Section 4, Kota Damansara, the headcount system ensures no congestion at the bazaar and thus prevents the spread of Covid-19 . With a limit of only 300 people allowed to enter the bazaar at a time, visitors would need to wait until the infrared heacount system detects another visitor has exited the bazaar before being allowed in.

Furthermore, the system also features a dashboard display at the bazaars’ entrance. This gives real-time information on the number of people currently purchasing their ‘buka puasa’ dishes at the bazaar.
As reported by the Selangor Journal, the bazaars at SS6/1 and Section 4 were picked due to the two having the highest number of visitors every year. Last year, 38,887 people visited the bazaar in SS 6/1 and 29,187 people visited the one in Section 4.
What do you guys think of the usage of infrared technology by MBPJ? Have you visited any of the two bazaars recently?
