Today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has just issued a statement that they did not warn against the usage of the #SiBodohKauDengarSini (translation - listen here, you idiot). In case you missed it, there is an on-going trend in Twitter with the hashtag and it's now an act of criticism against the Malaysia Government handling the pandemic. Before we get into the details, here's what MCMC said.

According to the statement, MCMC would like to remind the Rakyat that the warning was done by a fake parody account on Twitter. Initially, the fake parody account issued a warning that anyone using the hashtag would be punished with a hefty fine or going to jail. It even included the MCMC logo and further stated fabricated offences. MCMC ended the statement by taking appropriate steps to curb the trending hashtag.

The hashtag #SiBodohKauDengarSini first started trending about 3 days ago when a Malaysian woman got frustrated about the restaurants having to cut down their operating hours during this pandemic. Apparently, she missed her dinner for two days in a row now due to a possible server overload issue since too many people were placing their orders at the same time. Since then, the phrase became a hashtag and Malaysians began using it as a criticism against the government for their poor handling of the pandemic.

At the moment, the hashtag #SiBodohKauDengarSini has been tweeted more than 62,000 times as of 19th of January. Besides Malaysians venting their disappointment and frustrations, many Malaysians are also using it as a meme for fun which sparks certain truths. Oh well, never mess with Malaysians over the topic of food especially when hunger comes. Stay safe and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
