MCMC has launched an investigation on TM's unifi packages

Ever felt that your internet speed isn't near what it was advertised? You're probably not alone, as this is something a lot of unifi users seem to experience. An investigation into Telekom Malaysia's (TM) unifi package was launched earlier today by the MCMC, following a consumer complaint.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is scrutinising the new package that TM launched last month, which offers a download speed of 500Mbps and upload speed of 200Mbps. Allegedly, the user who filed the complaint noticed that the upload speed was reduced by half (to 100Mbps) beginning on 2 September 2020. Specifically, the package was quietly revised from 200Mbps to 100Mbps.

The before and after - sneaky, sneaky...

Since then, TM has responded to the accusation by claiming that it did not falsely advertise the package as 200Mbps upload. Rather, it was a print mistake and that it was supposed to be 100Mbps all along. The company has pledged to cooperate with MCMC in its investigation, so we'll have to wait for that to be completed before users who felt they have been duped could have a chance to ask for compensation.

Of course, this is not the first time something like this has happened. Nonetheless, it's great to see that MCMC is actively looking into it.
