The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) officially published the Guidelines on Information and Network Security for the Communications and Multimedia Industry (INSG). So, what should you know about it?

For your information, this comprehensive framework is designed to enhance information and network security and the resilience of the communications and multimedia industry in Malaysia. The INSG serves as a best practice framework and is not mandatory at this time. However, MCMC encourages the industry to adopt these best practices in their operations as part of their proactive measures in strengthening cybersecurity for the communications and multimedia industry.

In addition, MCMC stated that the INSG is not intended to add new regulations, but rather aims to improve the capabilities and availability of Service Providers in managing cyber risks, reducing data leaks, minimizing disruptions through strengthening network infrastructure, and protecting users from online threats.

During the development phase of the INSG, MCMC has actively engaged various stakeholders, including cybersecurity firms, security consultants, licensees (including data centre providers and cloud service providers), ministries, government agencies, regulatory bodies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academics, and forums under MCMC.

Moreover, the feedback, suggestions, and views provided were carefully evaluated and, where appropriate, were incorporated into the INSG. This inclusive and transparent approach reflects MCMC's commitment to ensuring that these guidelines meet the needs of all stakeholders while ensuring that best practices in cybersecurity management are adhered to.

Furthermore, MCMC believes that the INSG is an important step in protecting Malaysia's digital ecosystem, ensuring a secure and resilient network infrastructure for all. This move reflects MCMC's continued efforts to address challenges in the increasingly complex cyber landscape while fostering trust and security in the country's digital environment.
