As everyone knows, you can access into almost anything online nowadays, good and bad. That's why it's kinda scary for parents to be unaware of what their children might see. With this, our Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that Parental Control Tools will be offered for Malaysian parents for monitoring.

According to Fadzil, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is collaborating with all five telcos (CelcomDigi, Maxis, UMobile, Telekom Malaysia (TM) and TIME) on developing Parental Control Tools. As the name suggests, this will help parents to monitor and manage their children's online activities. This includes filtering, limiting and blocking online content that is deemed immoral.

During the Dewan Rakyat meeting, Fadzil also added that to address the risks and threats online, the implementation of educational and awareness programmes about internet safety will be enhanced. It will be carried out through initiatives with the likes of Klik Dengan Bijak (Click Wisely) and Malaysia ICT Volunteer (MIV) at schools, as well as the National Information Dissemination Centre (NaDi).

On top of that, Fadzil said his Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Education will have more discussions on online safety. Digital citizenship can also be expanded, which is a concept that provides knowledge about the proper usage of online technology. This could promote good behaviour, moral value applications and being responsible online.
