Just a few hours ago, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) just issued a new statement to remind our local telco operators about advertising the confusing data promotion and unlimited internet packages. The group have already taken action and will address the problem in order to protect the interest of consumers.

Under Section 127 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998, MCMC will be taking action against four (4) service providers namely Celcom, Maxis, Tune Talk and Webe. This is due to their non-compliance with the advertising-related provisions guided by the General Consumer Code of Practice for the communications industry and multimedia. Moreover, the four said service providers have been directed to take corrective action on misleading their promotions.

To add on, MCMC will continue to monitor and take action against any future misleading promotions and advertisements offered by our local telco. Such an example is the Fair Usage Policy (FUP) that weren't mentioned in the terms and conditions for unlimited data plans. Should the service providers fail to make amendments, they can be fined for less than RM100,000 or two (2) years imprisonment or both under Section 242 of the CMA 1998.

Lastly, MCMC would like to remind the users to understand the promotion and contents of a particular plan offered before subscribing to it. Stay safe, stay healthy and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
