Today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) just issued a total fine of up to RM750,000 on five local telcos. The reason being is because of their prepaid SIM cards registration was not done properly without any verification on users information.

Dated on 4 December 2020, the action was taken based on the audit conducted by MCMC in Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu during August and October last year. In comparison, the amount is 16% higher compared to 58 compounds worth RM2.9 million issued in 2019 for the same offence. Under Section 127 Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, this called for a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for two years or both upon conviction.

Just so you know, some U Mobile, Celcom, Maxis and others just got fined for the same reason in early October.

In case if you have been receiving spam messages in your new prepaid SIM card, kindly head to the nearest store or the one you bought from to exchange. Or you just can file a complaint to MCMC (lol). Stay tuned for trending tech news at TechNave.com.
