Most urbanites in Malaysia don't rely on fixed landline phones these days, but that's not to say that they are completely irrelevant now. A fixed number can be important for companies and organisation, so government authorities are considering ways to make them permanent.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is officially asking the public for opinions on this topic, specifically the implementation of Fixed Number Portability (FNP) in Malaysia. As the term suggests, FNP will allow Malaysians to keep their landline phone numbers, even if they switch service providers or move to a new location.

This is most convenient for companies that receive regular daily calls, as keeping their phone numbers can help ensure that clients won't lose contact or call the wrong number. However, it should be noted that the portability services and technical know-how for this have yet to be determined. If you want to contribute by voicing out, you can download the public consultation PDF and submit your answers before 1 March 2021.
What do you think about MCMC's plan? Are fixed landline numbers relevant for you? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
