MCMC plans to ban under-16-year-olds from social media soon

In case you didn’t know, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil is now targeting the full cooperation of all social media platforms in restricting access to users aged 16 and below. That said, what should you know about it?

No known date for the ban yet

For your information, only users aged 16 and above are allowed to use social media in Malaysia. Currently, this matter is still in the discussion phase, and there is no definite date for its enforcement. Previously, several countries have begun enforcing a 16-year age limit for social media use, after taking into account the well-being and mental health of children and minors.

Additionally, this partnership comes at a time when MCMC is likely to sue X in the near future, due to its failure to ensure the security of content sharing on the platform.
