The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is now initiating a Public Consultation on the proposed regulatory framework for the Online Safety Plan. So, what should you know about it?

A new measure for better child protection

For your information, MCMC informed that the consultation included a draft Risk Reduction Code and Child Protection Code as part of the implementation of the Online Safety Act 2025 (ONSA). According to MCMC, the regulatory framework and draft code aim to enhance the ability of online platforms to manage security risks, with particular emphasis on the protection of children, families and vulnerable groups.

Moreover, through the Public Consultation, MCMC is opening up a space for the public, industry players, civil society organisations and stakeholders to shape a safer online ecosystem. This includes seeking views on the effectiveness and feasibility of measures to improve the level of online security protection.

Besides that, the public is invited to review the consultation document and submit written feedback to MCMC, either physically or in electronic form, no later than 5.00 pm on 13 March 2026.
