In case you missed it, the Malaysian government recently announced Budget 2022 last Friday (29th October). In line with the government's initiative to help Malaysian families access technologies, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will assist in coordinating the Malaysian Family Student Device Package that was announced.

In the Malaysian Family Student Device Package plan, students who are currently studying in institutions of higher learning from the B40 group will get to own a tablet alongside mobile broadband data for free. This initiative is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2022 when the students can start to register. Besides MCMC, telcos such as Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom and YTL will be involved and working together.

In other related news, Budget 2022 also has other initiatives to help Malaysian families across the country. One of which is providing RM150 eWallet credit to youths aged between 18-20 years old as well as RM2500 tax relief for the purchase of phones, computers and tablets.
