As announced this morning, the precedent for the Share Subscription Agreements (SSAs) with CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile and YTL Communications to hold shares in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) will be completed soon. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil welcomes the announcement but also released another statement on his social media.

In the official statement, Fadmi said that he had instructed MCMC to start the process of establishing and appointing a mobile network service provider company that will build a second 5G network in Malaysia. This includes issuing the applicant information package on 1 July 2024.

The process will be carried out transparently based on the powers and provisions enshrined under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. With this, the Communications Ministry will be committed to implementing the government's decision to switch to a Dual 5G network model to end the monopoly by DNB.

The government hopes that the process will drive the direction of the telecommunications industry, as well as ensure good plan prices and 5G service quality for the rakyat.
