The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has assured that the US government’s potential restrictions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) chip exports won’t affect existing data centres in Malaysia. Its Deputy Minister, Liew Chin Tong, said that the Malaysian Government will adopt a wait-and-see approach to assess the potential impact on future arrangements.
According to Bernama, Liew said that MITI will engage internally, with stakeholders and with the incoming US administration to understand the extent of the regulation. Moreover, Liew said that MITI will seize the opportunity to engage with the incoming US administration when it arises.
