More than a year after the launch of the Panels app, MKBHD has now announced that it will be discontinuing the wallpaper downloader app it introduced last year. So, what should you know about it?
It didn’t get a good reception
For your information, the app, called Panels, will be completely discontinued on December 31, 2025. Panels was previously launched in September 2024, but was criticised by many due to its high subscription price, just to download wallpapers.
When it was introduced, it was offered at a price of RM61 per month, but then after a month, it was updated to RM8.99 per month. However, the app is now discontinued. MKBHD says they failed to develop it as they had hoped, which is why they chose to end it completely.
Moving forward, the app's development code will be offered in open source form by January 4, 2026, allowing anyone interested to develop on top of it. All user data will also be completely deleted by that date. MKBHD informed that all downloaded photos can be kept by users forever.
