During this MCO, one of the essentials that we largely rely on is the Internet. Without it, most of us would not know how to survive as that is the thing that we depend on to get communications and works done. Now, it is announced that there will be network degradation for a few days for some users, as one of the submarine cable systems will be under maintenance.

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has announced that the maintenance works are being carried out on the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable system. It involves works on the Segment 1i, which locates between Vung Tau (Vietnam) to Lantau, Hong Kong connecting Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the Asia Pacific, including Malaysia to Hong Kong and the United States (US).

However, it is said that only the users who are using the services will be affected by the maintenance exercise. If you’re not using them, your Internet experience would be largely unaffected by this work. Other than that, TM has also mentioned that they have vast and diverse network connectivity worldwide. Therefore, the company is sufficient to continuously support any sudden rise in demand for Internet bandwidth.

During this pandemic, it is obvious that Internet usage is facing an increase as everyone is staying home. There has been a 30 percent increase in Internet usage in Malaysia. Also, the increase of international link traffic is only 5 percent, so TM said that they are still able to provide normal Internet experience to their users despite the condition. For the maintenance, it is expected to be carried on from today until 21st April. If you’re the unfortunate one, just stay strong for a few days and you’re good to go.
