Did you know that before the pandemic, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore air route was the busiest international air route in the world? Well, the route may become more environmentally-friendly if all of the flights would follow this maiden passenger flight by Malaysia Airlines using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Set for take off in conjunction with World Environment Day this 5 June 2022, this will be Malaysia Airlines Bhd’s first SAF-powered passenger flight. Moreover, the usage of SAF for its MH606 (Singapore to Kuala Lumpur) and MH603 (Kuala Lumpur to SIngapore) reaffirm the national airline’s commitment to a sustainable tomorrow and mark significant progress towards achieving a cleaner, more viable fuel source for regular flights by 2025.

As reported by national news agency Bernama, the flights will be operated on the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Besides that, the flights will be using a blend of around 38 percent SAF and conventional jet fuel.

In a statement yesterday, Malaysia Airlines said that compared to conventional fossil jet fuel, this sustainable fuel option is made from 100 percent renewable waste and residue raw materials (such as cooking oil). Hence, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent.

So, if you’re planning to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore or vice versa soon, do look out for Malaysia Airlines’ SAF-powered flights. In fact, if you book the mentioned Malaysia Airlines flight from now until 4 June 2022, you can actually enjoy 15 percent off by using the promo code ‘SAF2022’ when checking out at the company’s official website.
