Malaysia has sealed an agreement with Arm Holdings to position Malaysia as a destination for semiconductor production. To this end, Malaysia will allocate $250 million over 10 years to Arm and gain access to a wide range of semiconductor-related knowledge and licenses.
This method is expected to continue increasing local knowledge and assisting local companies and firms in developing their own chips. Malaysia itself aims to export up to $270 billion in semiconductors alone by 2030. In line with this investment, the government aims to form up to 10 chip companies that have annual revenues of around $20 billion.
Today, Malaysia is ready to release a number of chips that are used in various devices. However, we are still behind in terms of chip design – and this step is expected to spur countries to develop chips. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out soon.
